What is Bumbershoot?
Bumbershoot®: Seattle’s Music & Arts Festival is now in its 40th year. Since 1971, Bumbershoot has drawn artists representing the best in music, film, comedy, spoken word, dance, theatre, performance, and visual arts to the Seattle Center over Labor Day weekend. North America’s largest urban arts festival, Bumbershoot takes place in the heart of the city at the 74-acre Seattle Center. Over 150,000 visitors from near and far spend the weekend reveling in the world of Bumbershoot, experiencing everything from regional favorites to international superstars across all arts disciplines.
How does Bumbershoot work?
One ticket gets you onto the Festival grounds each day and from there, the world of Bumbershoot is yours to explore. Experience groundbreaking local, national, and international artists in all arts disciplines and musical genres at a variety of large and small, indoor and unique outdoor venues*. Participate in hands-on activities throughout the Festival and enjoy music, theatre, dance, comedy, literary arts, visual arts and more all in the same day. Harold LeMay Museum officials held a groundbreaking ceremony June 10 to mark the beginning of construction on their new $58 million facility. Woman-owned Security Business Launches in Seattle.
While millions of people all over the country are losing their jobs and struggling to make ends meet, one former business owner launched a new start up and is making her mark in the security business.
May 17, 2010 — (Seattle, WA) – After being a business owner with 160 employees for 18 years, Stephanie Waterman retired and was looking forward to her husband’s retirement. However, that did not put a damper on her female entrepreneurial spirit. More than five million Americans age 55 and older operate their own businesses, or are otherwise self-employed according to the Small Business Association, and woman owned small businesses are some of the fastest growing segments of our economy. Stephanie’s company, Bytor Security Solutions, is one of them.
A huge change in today’s method of conducting business is the internet. This new style of selling is exciting, and at the same time challenging, especially if you have been accustomed to conducting business on a person to person basis. “When you speak with a potential buyer across a desk, you gain a strong understanding of their needs. They also have an opportunity to become familiar with you and your company. Absent that personal contact you must now find a way to grab their attention with a single visit to your web site, and hope that the internet connection you’ve made develops into additional sales opportunities.” said Stephanie Waterman. On the positive side of this reshaped business design is a reduced need for expensive travel in order to produce sales. That one factor could well be the difference between success and failure for small businesses.
Bytor Security supplies a variety of badges and badge accessories for identity verification purposes. They handle the needs of large and small businesses, office buildings, hospitals, schools, banks, and institutions. This includes everyday business requirements, as well as special events such as meetings, concerts, and other large gatherings. The identification of visitors to your business or event is extremely important in today’s environment of heightened security awareness. You need to know who does, and who does not belong on the premises.
“Companies are doing their best to stretch every dollar in an effort to get the most out of their marketing decisions. We understand this, and we have developed numerous ways to help other businesses achieve their brand awareness goals with custom designed items.” says Stephanie. With Bytor’s assistance companies can effectively and affordably promote their business by proudly displaying logos and company names on custom lanyards, custom badge reels, and other accessories for their employees, or for group events.
In these times of increased safety awareness for your employees and your customers, appropriate security procedures are more important than ever. For one small start up, ensuring your security is vital to their success.

Bytor Gives Back
National Cancer Institute

I am an owner of Bytor Security and I have a twin brother with cancer. He was a career officer in the military and in 2002 had just returned from a tour in Korea. The cancer was discovered by a doctor while working on a treatment for his reoccurring headaches. They elected to do a biopocy which left him paralyzed on one side. He immediately took retirement from the Army. As a dentist he had to have both hands to work. His paralysis left in 8 weeks thankfully, but he had to undergo radiation treatment and chemo treatments for 2 years. They can’t remove his cancer, or give him a time factor on life. He works on eating healthy and exercising to keep healthy.
Next one of my younger brothers got kidney cancer. He had one removed and we hoped that would be the end of his problems. Unfortunately tainted blood had moved through his colon and within a year he found himself in a fight with colon cancer. Everyone, we have no cure for Cancer, whether it is in your body. Cancer can hit any one of us or a loved one, without a warning. We need to fight this disease that puts us all at risk, and stand up and fight for those who are having trouble fighting for themselves.
My husband and I have donated to several cancer foundations over the years. We believe strongly in the need for cures. This has led us to a realization that there is no one cancer that deserves more attention than another. So armed with this knowledge and resolve to step up and fight, we have put our focus on the National Cancer Institute which works tirelessly with all forms of cancer. It provides a conduit to the US legislators keeping them informed of numbers of victims, the numbers of breakthroughs and the need to continue strongly fighting cancer using new researchers, techniques and taking the fight all across the nation. With an aging population we will be seeing more cases because cancer weighs heavily on the aging.
Please join us in the fight.
